Relocation and Reconstruction of MV Allez
MV Allez cut into sections at Mwanza, transported to Kigoma and rebuilt there under TASAC-approved engineering methodology.
Mkombozi Fishing and Marine Transport Ltd needed MV Allez moved from its operating base on Lake Victoria at Mwanza to a new base on Lake Tanganyika at Kigoma — two separate lake systems with no navigable connection between them, so the vessel could not simply sail across. Aquarian delivered the relocation as a full engineering programme: cutting MV Allez into transportable sections under an approved technical methodology, moving the sections to Kigoma, and rebuilding the vessel there — restoring its structural continuity, reinstating its machinery, and taking the work through TASAC inspection and approval at every stage from the initial cutting plan to final handover.
Scope delivered
- Engineering and TASAC documentation — detailed technical plan, structural assessment report, and cutting and reassembly methodology
- HSE and environmental documentation, with submission, follow-up and coordination of TASAC inspections and approvals throughout
- Setting out and marking of approved cutting lines at Mwanza, with temporary bracing and reinforcement ahead of cutting
- Cutting MV Allez into transportable sections and preparing each section for lifting and transport
- Technical supervision during loading, including identification of lifting and support points and protection of critical structural and machinery components
- Setting out of vessel baseline, centreline and reference points at Kigoma ahead of reassembly
- Positioning and alignment of the transported sections, with tack welding and dimensional verification
- Reconnection and reconstruction of hull sections, restoring the vessel's structural continuity
- Structural steelwork — hull plating, reinstatement of frames, stiffeners, girders and bulkheads, and reinforcement of cut and reconstructed areas
- Reinstallation and alignment of main machinery, engine, gearbox, shafting and propulsion systems
- Inspection and quality control — visual weld inspection, watertightness testing, dimensional checks and rectification of any workmanship defects
- Coordination of TASAC inspections during reconstruction and at final survey, and handover of the completed vessel to Mkombozi Fishing and Marine Transport Ltd
Outcome
MV Allez rebuilt and handed over to Mkombozi Fishing and Marine Transport Ltd in safe operating condition on Lake Tanganyika.
